The cross is traditionally made in Ireland on the eve of St Brigid'ss Day (February 1) and hung above doors or windows, to protect the house and residents. The symbol is probably older than Christianity: in pre Christian Irish mythology, Brigid was one of the Tuatha D Danann. According to tradition, Saint
